The original Japanese embroidery was made in the early 20th century using vibrant silk threads to depict a striking, oriental peacock perched amongst delicate peonies, wisteria flower and golden leaves. In Japan, the peacock is associated with the deity Kannon: a symbol of compassion and kind-heartedness. Fuji is the Japanese for wisteria and botan for peonies, which are known as the “King of Flowers” and are a symbol of good fortune, bravery and honour.
