This original 19th C needlework uses a silk chain stitch with a gold metal work outline to create this beautiful design of Victorian stylised flowers in pink and purple. The romantic minds of the Victorians with their interest in medieval chivalry and symbolism, alongside an increased importation of exotic plants caused an overall appreciation for flowers in their society. Subsequently, botanic plants and colourful flowers became popular and common subjects in Victorian artwork and embroidery design.
