This 18th Century needlework consists of raised and padded silver thread on magenta silk to create an organic flowing design of the parable Matthew 6:28 (The Lilies of the Field and the Birds of the Air), as well as a partially-perished Crucifixion scene as the central motif. Religious needlework done unto the glory of God was of the highest quality, thus this style of rich embroidery has long been used in ecclesiastical vestments and altar draping.
